chicago - my kind of town

Chicago has been in the news a lot recently after the release of a police video of the shooting of Laquan McDonald by a Chicago Police Officer.  It turns out that the officer(s) reports and the video show entirely different things.  Also the fact that the video was not released earlier and a multi-million dollar settlement was reached without it being released leads to additional questions about what really goes on in Chicago.  

Protests have led to the firing (encouraged resignation) of Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy. Many are calling for the resignation of two elected officials, Mayor Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County States Attorney Anita Alvarez also.

It seems to me Chicago, home of our President, is a perfect setting to expect corruption.  Politically, it's been controlled by one party for several generations, promising greatness while maintaining the status quo.  Why is that?  I thought competition brought better products and services.  If so, why would you keep buying (voting for) the same product.

So, after the investigation and the investigation of the investigation and the speeches  (this will take awhile) we'll here the recommendations.  Likely no elected officials will be fired, a few "generals" will get tossed (although they'll keep their pensions) as well as some officers, the police department moral will reach a new low, and we'll see Chicago residents rise up and vote for the same political party that has put them in this situation.  Oh, and crime statistics?  Not likely to change much for a generation.
